How Do We Learn to Rejoice Genuinely in Someone Else’s Success?

Why is the word ‘with love’ added specifically to the priestly blessing?

The canonical unit links the priestly blessing with the emotional discipline of looking generously at another person. Envy is not limited to dramatic rivalry; it can appear when a colleague earns more, a friend advances, or someone else receives recognition we wanted. The essay asks whether blessing another person can be sincere if the heart resents that person’s good. A good eye does not require denying one’s own disappointment. It means refusing to turn another person’s success into evidence of our own failure. The practice is to separate another person’s gain from our worth and to cultivate the capacity to wish good for someone without secretly demanding that their light become smaller.
