Why Is a Person Who Has Everything Still Not Always Happy?

The canonical unit connects joy with knowing one’s own place and individuality, using the four species of Sukkot as part of its Torah framework. Material abundance is source-supported modern context, but the thesis is not that possessions are irrelevant. The problem begins when abundance is measured through comparison. A person can have much and still experience life as lacking because someone else has a different gift, status or path. Joy therefore requires more than acquiring additional things; it requires a relationship with what is actually ours. Recognizing one’s own role does not cancel aspiration. It prevents aspiration from becoming permanent dissatisfaction with being someone else. The possibility of joy grows when uniqueness is experienced as a task rather than a defect.
