Why Does Real Change Need a Destination, Not Only a Desire to Escape?
Are we only running away from what was bad, or do we also know where we want to go?
The canonical unit distinguishes leaving from arriving. A person can have a powerful reason to escape a bad job, harmful relationship or unhealthy pattern and still become lost once the immediate pressure disappears. ‘Turn away from bad’ is necessary, but it is incomplete without a positive direction. The essay uses the language of journey to ask what future a change is meant to build. A destination does not need to be perfectly detailed. It needs enough meaning to guide the next decisions after the relief of leaving fades. Otherwise, change can become a series of exits. Real transition begins when the person can say not only what he refuses to continue, but what kind of life he is trying to move toward.
