Why Does a Reminder Work Only When We Connect It to Intention and Meaning?

How is tzitzit supposed to function as a reminder if a person can wear it and still fail?

This unit asks why visible reminders do not automatically change behavior. Tzitzit can be present on the body while attention is somewhere else, just as a note, symbol or recurring cue can become part of the background. The essay’s point is that a reminder needs an active bridge to intention. Seeing is not the same as remembering, and remembering is not the same as choosing. A meaningful cue works when a person has decided in advance what it is meant to awaken: identity, commitment and a concrete next action. The lesson therefore extends beyond the object itself to the way we design habits: reminders are strongest when they point to a purpose we have consciously made our own.
