Why Isn’t Knowing Enough to Change What We Do?

We can know that anger damages relationships and still explode. We can value presence and still reach for the phone automatically. Knowledge matters, but real-time behavior is shaped by repetition. Torah gives values bodily form through repeated action because a value becomes part of life only when it has a practiced response. The question is not merely “What do I believe?” but “What have I rehearsed?” Change becomes more durable when the desired response is practiced often enough to become available under pressure.
