Why Does the Torah End With Broken Tablets?

“The tablets and the broken tablets were placed in the Ark” offers a profound image of how to carry a broken past. The pieces are not thrown away, yet they do not replace the whole tablets. Failure, loss, a relationship that ended, or a capacity that weakened can remain worthy of memory without becoming the total identity of the person. We can honor what was real, mourn what was lost, take responsibility for what was ours, and still build forward. Integration means neither erasing the broken pieces nor making them the only thing inside the Ark.
