If Rosh Hashanah Is a Day of Judgment, Why Do We Celebrate?

Judgment is frightening when it means only exposure and punishment. Rosh Hashanah adds another dimension: belonging, trust, and the possibility of a future. Joy does not deny accountability; it refuses to turn accountability into despair. A person can tremble before the seriousness of life and still believe that the next chapter is not closed. Mature hope is not certainty that everything will go our way. It is the ability to stand inside uncertainty without abandoning trust, responsibility, or the possibility of renewal.
