Why Dance With a Closed Torah Scroll?

A closed scroll creates a striking equality: nobody is dancing with everything they know. Belonging comes before mastery. “The Torah is an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob” means that lack of knowledge is a reason to learn, not proof that a person has no place. This is especially important when shame says, “Come back only after you are good enough.” Healthy belonging does not remove responsibility. It gives a person enough ground beneath their feet to learn, receive criticism, and grow without turning every gap into a verdict on their worth.
